Creative snafu
May. 20th, 2011 05:21 pmSo I've been wrestling with a writing-related issue all week...but I may have fixed it now! ^_^ I've been slaving away on the second half of the Broad-Ford Crow, and I got mired down. I couldn't figure out what was wrong: I was happy with the story up until the trouble spot, and I had tentative plotting done to help me sail on through to the end, but one part of the story just wasn't working. I railed and ranted and swore seven ways to Sunday....and then it--the solution to my problem--came to me! So hopefully I'll be that much closer to being done. I've been drafting bits and pieces of it, so I'm hoping I can assemble and bridge those pieces and finish up shortly. As is typical for my story-writing, it's turned out much longer than I'd anticipated. Blargh. I would love, love, love to be able to pull off a less-than-fifteen-pages-but-still-feels-complete story.
The good and the bad of my (and I cringe saying this phrase) creative process is that I've always got something on the back burner, and if I get stuck on one thing, I can switch to another and not waste too much effort and/or time on the one that's giving me grief. The converse of that is that I'm always being tempted to do something else, even if things are moving along swimmingly. So in addition to the Broad-Ford Crow, I've been giving some thought to the as-yet unnamed post-college Saiyuki AU story I've been waffling about. I had a fantastic time making up names for the characters. It's the first time (I think) that I've really tried re-naming the characters. Most of the time I don't do that because, to be honest, I have trouble remembering who's who when they have new names. But...this time they're far enough removed from their canon selves that the new names kind of fit them better than the old ones. Plus, benefit of the AU, both Koumyou and Kanaan are alive. It's like...the super-happy best scenario universe. XD But hey. They've got to catch a break sometime.
Anywho, I've got to run before I burn dinner.
