I wish I spoke/could read French...
May. 3rd, 2009 07:25 pmYou see, one of my absolute favorite bands of all time is an indie (or at least as far as I can tell) band from France. I stumbled on them years ago. It took me days to suss out their name online. I found a minuscule article, in French, about this band playing in some sort of local cultural festival. I learned that they had a single, self-produced and -distributed cd...and no website. And it's not like I could write a letter or make an international phone call. My French is pretty much limited to various food words, hahaha.
I've been looking for news of them off and on for the past three or four years and today I found them again! ^___^ They have a website with a streaming broadcast of their cd and, as far as I can tell, an announcement of a second cd!!! See, this is why I need to know French. I need it to ascend to a higher level of fangirling! (If I knew French I would have found a way to buy their cd all that time ago.)
The name of the band? Spams. No, seriously. Spams. They rock it hardcore with random covers of seventies-ish songs, original works including a fantastic reel, and an awesome song that contains thirteen minutes of popular eighties and nineties tv themes. (I find listening to the Thundercats theme in French freaking hilarious and awesome at the same time.)
You can love them here: http://spamslegroupe.com/accueil.php If you go to the media page, there's a link to the radio broadcast there, at the bottom left next to the album cover thumbnail. It shuffles the tracks automatically, but they're all worth listening to! ^_^
